This 1-mile walk down Walnut Street in West Philadelphia to 40th Street will raise donations to help support Women Organized Against Rape - America's first rape crisis center. The walk ends at The Rotunda where WOAR’s 3rd Annual Take it All Back event is occurring. Members of the community will come together to speak out against sexual violence and celebrate healing. There will be live music, free food, and raffle prizes.

Issues of domestic violence and sexual assault are prevalent throughout the Asian-American community:

    * 64% of Asian women said they knew of an Asian friend who had experienced intimate partner violence (Project AWARE, 2001)
    * 27% experienced emotional abuse by an intimate partner (National Asian Women’s Health Organization, 2002)
    * 16% of Asian women reported having been “pressured to have sex without their consent with their intimate partner” (National Asian Women’s Health Organization, 2002)
    * 12.8% of Asian women reported experiencing physical assault by an intimate partner (CDC, 2000)
    * 8% of Asian American women have experienced completed rape (NAWHO, 2002)
    * 21% of API women have a history of child sexual abuse; 25% of these women are later raped as adults (National Institute of Justice, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1998)

By participating in this event, we hope to illuminate these facts about abuse in the Asian-American community and to erase any stigma attached to speaking out and getting help.
